Albufeira do Roxo DWTP: Ozone Generator Retrofit with 2× NLO-2K Units (2 kg/h Each) and Two-Stage Ozonation
Longking EnTech Europe (formerly Newland EnTech Europe) delivered a retrofit of the drinking water ozonation system at the Roxo drinking water treatment plant, upgrading the ozone generation equipment to support stable operation under evolving source-water conditions from the Albufeira do Roxo reservoir.
As part of the retrofit, we supplied two NLO-2K ozone generators, each with an ozone production capacity of 2 kg/h, engineered for reliable long-term performance.
Why the retrofit was needed
In recent years, changes in source-water quality have increased the need for robust treatment steps that help utilities manage:
natural organic matter (NOM) oxidation,
taste & odour control, and
improved process stability upstream of downstream polishing stages.
Upgrading the ozonation system supports these objectives by strengthening oxidation performance and helping reduce the drivers that can contribute to downstream disinfection by-product formation (site-specific).

Scope of supply (turnkey)
The project was delivered under a turnkey contract, including:
supply of the ozone generators and all required peripherals,
electrical and mechanical installation,
commissioning and start-up,
telecontrol / remote communication and plant control integration.
Ozonation configuration — two dosing stages
The upgraded installation includes two ozone dosing stages:
Pre-ozonation, supporting early oxidation and process conditioning.
Intermediate ozonation, supporting additional oxidation and improved control of taste/odour and organic precursors before downstream steps.
This two-stage approach improves operational flexibility and helps maintain stable performance under variable raw-water conditions.
Ozone transfer and contacting
Ozone transfer to water is achieved through fine-bubble ceramic diffusers, selected to support reliable mass transfer and stable operation in the contacting stage.
Automation and telecontrol
The entire ozone system is managed by a PLC-based control panel, including telecontrol, enabling consistent dosing control, alarm management and simplified operator interaction.
